A regularly scheduled public-transportation service, with a fixed route, does not operate in the Northern Neck region at this time, but commuters have the following options:

Colonial Beach Trolley
A seasonal trolley. Details.
Also, Bay Transit operates a service Monday-Friday from Colonial Beach to Dahlgren, leaving the town at 6 a.m. and starting the return trip from Dahlgren at 4 p.m. The cost is $4 round-trip. For additional details on this service, please call (804) 224-0175.

Kilmarnock Trolley
A seasonal trolley. Details.

First Priority Transportation
Description: From Montross or Oak Grove to the Fredericksburg area, daily service. Fare: $5 each way. For additional information, contact Kevin Johnson at

Bay Transit
Description: On-demand bus services for the Northern Neck. Pick-up at your home, office, or other locations. Northern Neck Service Areas: Lancaster, Northumberland, Richmond, and Westmoreland Counties. Fare: $1 each way within one county. $2 each way when crossing county lines. Scheduling: Call 24 hours in advance to schedule a ride. Toll-free calls to (866) 445-8916 in Richmond County and (877) 869-6046 in Lancaster, Northumberland, and Westmoreland Counties.

Maryland Transit Administration
From Southern Maryland to Washington, D.C., The Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland's Commuter Assistance Program offers commuter bus services from Calvert, Charles, and St. Mary's Counties (Bus Route 901 from La Plata and Waldorf). From From Richmond, travel directly to Washington, Hampton, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Durham and Charlotte, N.C. Buses have Wi-Fi service and power outlets. Additional information here.
