The Northern Neck Rideshare Program COMMONWEALTH TRANSPORTATION BOARD TO
ADOPT REVISED SIX-YEAR TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM AT SPECIAL MEETING RELEASE: IMMEDIATE - February 12, 2009 - CO-0905 RICHMOND – The Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) will hold a special meeting on Friday, Feb. 13, to approve a rare mid-year revision of the Fiscal Years 2009-2014 Six-Year Improvement Program for public transportation, rail and highway projects. In order to have the flexibility to apply federal stimulus dollars to the state’s most pressing needs, the CTB must approve the revised program prior to the passing of the federal stimulus package, which is expected to be signed into law by President Barack Obama on Monday, Feb. 16. The $8.9 billion revised program reflects significant reductions in the highway program stemming from a $2.6 billion state and federal funding shortfall over the next six years. It was presented to the CTB for consideration at the Feb. 5, meeting. The revised program commits $6.0 billion for highway construction and $2.9 billion for public transportation and rail over the next six years. The meeting will be held at 2 p.m. at Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT) Central Office Auditorium, 1221 E. Broad St., Richmond, Va. The Fiscal Years 2009-2014 Six-Year Improvement Program and lists of projects delayed or removed from the program will be available on Feb. 13 on the Virginia Department of Transportation Web site at http://www.virginiadot.org/projects/syp-default.asp. ### RESOURCES:
